Pysanky Dyes |
These NON-EDIBLE pysanky dyes are called aniline dyes, which are the same types of colors used on textiles. They are typically more vivid than standard food coloring, which you find in the supermarket. The original pysanky dyes were made from plants and minerals that were easily found in nature, such as onion skins and tree bark. Each of these dye packets makes 1 - 1/4 cup of non-edible water soluble dyeing solution. They have been approved by a licensed toxicologist as non hazardous to health when used as directed. You will need to buy distilled water, white vinegar, and containers for mixing and storing the solutions. (Wide mouth glass jars with tight sealing lids work best.) The solution will last a long time if kept sealed and stored in a cool dry place, and if you take care to prevent egg leakage in the solution. Remember, NEVER add vinegar to the Orange dye.
